The Jim Smith Walking Stick Trophy (a very old golf club) is played with 3 Clubs and a Putter as a 9 hole Stableford Competition for Senior Golfers, which precedes the very popular Seniors’ Section Christmas lunch.
This year proved a very close finish with 6 golfers finishing on the same 19 Stableford points. So based on the count-back system, the winner was declared as Howard Frost and the runners up as John Taylor, Ray Storer, Nick Prince, John Cave & Steve Bryan. It is always a source of great debate that these golfers have scored very well in trying ground conditions using only 4 Clubs.
Howard Frost (centre) is pictured receiving the Walking Stick Trophy from the Seniors Captain, Ged Allan, together with a special walking stick club made and donated by specialist Walking Stick manufacturer, Duncan Renshaw (pictured with spectacles) the Seniors Section Vice Captain.
Ged Allan made special mention of Richard Walker and his Green staff for ensuring that the Course was playable on the full greens despite the extreme wet weather conditions.
The Christmas lunch was enjoyed by 94 attendees, including the Club President Paul Cook and Club Captain John Taylor, and the kitchen staff were complimented for providing an excellent meal and service.
