CLUB NOTICEBOARD : Today's Golfer highlights "The MUST PLAY Golf Course in Midlands & East England"

Issue 390 of 'Today's Golfer' (pp116-117) Ashbourne Golf Club is highlighted as the 'MUST PLAY' Course in the Midlands & East of England.

The edition's text reads:
"Ashbourne, Derbyshire
Architect: David Hemstock (founded 1886)
Yardage: 5,977-6,303 (par71)
Green Fees: £30 midweek, £40 weekends.
In a nutshell... One of the county's oldest clubs though the current layout, plotted in the most picturesque of open countryside, has only been in existence since 1999. It boasts a collection of strong par 4s, including a thrilling finale with the last green sitting beyond a lake and guarded by a nest of bunkers.
To play well you need to ... Start well: the 1st is a demanding left dog-leg par 4 and your opening drive must be threaded between two well-placed bunkers. And get the upper hand on the "short" holes - the 198 yard 9th and 201 yard 16th are both little beasts capable of inflicting much scorecard damage.
You'll love ...The gorgeous views into Dovedale and the Peak District will long live in the memory, along with the quirky features (don't forget to ring the bell on leaving the green of the left dog-leg 5th with its sloping right to left fairway) and the USGA spec greens. "

This is a fantastic review from a national magazine

Well done to Richard Walker and his team.
