LADIES LOSE TO BURTON GOLF CLUB IN FINAL OF INTER CLUB FOURSOMES

The ladies' Silver Team travelled to Mickleover Golf Club to face Burton Golf Club in the final of the County Inter Club Foursomes on Friday 22 September. The course was soft, so there was little run on and the ladies had to deal with one or two 'mud balls' as well as some very heavy rain showers - not ideal golfing conditions, but conditions were the same for both teams!

Gill Lockwood and Sally Benn receiving 3 strokes were first out, won the first hole then promptly lost the next three only to rally to win the next four holes. Not one hole was halved on a roller coaster of a  front nine as they made the turn one up! They moved to two up after twelve holes, but as the back nine progressed Burton were more accurate in their approach play and putting and eventually won the match 2 up.

Anne Bourne and Anne Colwell faced opponents who were considerably longer off the tee and although they received 7 strokes, found it difficult to make inroads on the front nine and were eventually 6 down. However they mounted a spirited fight back to get within 2, but it was not to be and they eventually lost 4 & 2, giving Burton the overall win.

Unfortunately Ashbourne had been unable to produce the same form as in the semi-final the previous week and Burton had been the better team on the day so deserved their victory. The match was played in very good spirit and  pictured are the two teams with their winners' and runners - up trophies.

Previously the Team  had had two good wins, both away from home, in the first and second rounds. They then went on to meet Chatsworth in the semi - finals at Chesterfield Golf Club which they won 3 up.

A report on previous rounds can be found in the ladies section of the website.
